Beastie Boys: To The 5 Boroughs

Matteo Pericoli’s art is the perfect compliment to the Beastie Boy’s tribute to NYC. We received the fold-out digi pack and the artwork had great impact even at that size. The original is 12×444 inches and at that size you’d feel like you were there. Well there but on drugs as everything is line art.
The digi pack comes with an O-Ring cover for the album which has the Parental Advisory stick and Copy protection crap on it. You can then take this off and see the artwork sticker free. It also helps to protect the album.

Note: The artwork was finished in 2000 hence the WTC shown still standing.
You can actually buy this artwork on Amazon as a fold out book. But why not track down the digi pack version and get a CD thrown in for the deal.
Here’s the digi pack opened up. All the track information is around the illustration. It’s double sided showing both the East and West side of NYC. Note my fancy carpet in this photo :)

Scroll to the right in the frame below to see the full panorama or NY’s East Side by Matteo Pericoli.
Flipping the DIGI pack over you get a view of NYC’s westside. Scroll below to see Matteo’s full west side panorama.
Matteo’s art reminds me of Steven Wiltshire’s amazing panoramas he draws from memory.
This album was designed by Nathanial Hörnblowér. The creative genius who works with the Beastie Boys on many of their albums and clips. Here’s a photo of him below. He looks like your typical eccentric designer and looks rather familiar :)

Unlike other albums I have posted where the single’s artwork shares a common thread with the main album art the two singles released from To The 5 Bouroughs, Ch-Check it out and Triple Trouble are in a totally different direction. While I don’t really like the design seeing the guys dressed up is always fun.

And if you’re wondering why it took the Beastie Boys 6 years to release another studio album this film clip for Triple Trouble will explain everything.

Matteo Pericoli allowed Independent Ideas (an Italian creative agency) to use his drawing for their website.

Such gorgeous illustration. I must admit I’m always taken by anything New York oriented but this nevertheless is beautiful.
