Bjork: Volta

M/M have done well to “out weird” the previous Bjork covers with this design for Volta. The sculpture by Bernhard Willhelm, a famous fashion designer, is a mix between a Russian Doll and a melted bag of Chuppa Chups.

Here’s a behind the scenes photo of the sculpture without Bjork inside.

Bjork: Volta Sculpture Photo

It looks like the sculpture had to be held up with a chain. So we won’t be seeing this on the catwalk or live gig anytime soon.

The album is also available in a limited edition with special packaging check the promotional site created for the album for more info on this version.

Bjork Volta Booklet

The crazy crochet costumes created by The Icelandic Love Corporation. It’s something your grandma would knit on LSD.

Bjork also put together a podcast on the making of the album. The first episode is below.

  1. Best Bjork cover since Post. They were all getting a bit samey, so it’s nice to see Bjork do something so juicy. Shame the album sounds like Bjork doing Bjork.

  2. I had no idea they actually built this bizarro costume, I thought it was a Photoshop job. Pretty awesome to see someone taking cover art so seriously.

  3. Too bad for the outline. It looks photoshopped and passé because of it.

  4. The white outline is because it’s a sticker.

  5. Hey Jams,

haha that makes sense now why it has the white border. My Bad

  6. hi,im from colombia, i would like to have this album, their songs are exelents, congratulation my horoe BJORK Y LOVE U..if someone wnat to send me a massage.please to mi e-mail..kissis

  7. Hi Catalina! Did you get the album? It’s not saling in Colombia? Look at throught internet to buy it maybe.

  8. I think they should have made a naturalistic picture of the sculpture standing somewhere in the forest.

  9. I have this album. and i thought it was..not so good. but im not sure if thats because i found out Bjork is pro whaleing and was criticising Australian Greenpeace etc etc etc so i kind of really dislike her now.

but anyway, its a nice idea. i love covers that fold out and are paper and are different from the norm.
and it is interesting to know that it was actually a photographed costume. because without knowing this it could easily be mistaken for just an intricate vector.
personaly i think its quite ugly.
but i do like the typeography on the back.
