Wiley’s latest, and said to be last, album “Playtime is Over” is a great example of how hip hop doesn’t always take itself too seriously. I love the subtle humor and juxtaposition of colour, you almost do a double take. It reminds me of when I used to colour my lego black with a big [...]
My knowledge of Joe Jacksons music doesn’t go further than having “Is she really going out with him” in my 80′s mix. Which shows how much I know, as the song was released in 1979.
This caught my eye while browsing on Amazon. The complex screen printed shapes spell out the band name in an abstract way, although this is only really evident in the posters.
I think Jesse LeDoux’s artwork was a great choice for Chutes Too Narrow, and I guess the band didn’t have to look too far considering Jesse worked as an art director and designer for Sub Pop Records. His playful, poppy and avant-garde style perfectly reflects the music on this album and the musical nature of [...]
We would have posted this earlier but Rob had packed up the album in a box and we couldn’t find it. This was the first album I remember seeing fancy packaging for and wanted to buy it for that reason alone. There must have been other before but this one sticks in my mind.
This cover for Ground Components’ first full length album caught my eye while we were updating the ARIA website. It stood out from the myriad of bland covers that dominate the ARIA’s. Sadly it seems this album isn’t nominated for anything. I’m not even sure why we were sent the cover? Check out some tunes [...]
Some very nice photography by the amazing Timothy Saccenti for New York experimental band ‘Battles’. The art direction and design is supplied by one of the band members, Dave Konopka. These images are taken from the set of the band’s video for first single ‘Atlas’. The yellow drum set reminds us of the one featured [...]
Mika’s music is catchy, fun and colourful and its good to see his cover artwork is much of the same. I didn’t even know who Mika was but then after checking out his website I realized I’d heard that “Love Today” song many times but never knew the singers name. His music reminds me of [...]
The best thing about becoming a Van Halen fan in the mid 80′s, admittedly starting with 5150 and then learning that the only true Van Halen was David Lee Roth Van Halen, was i instantly had access to an already great catalogue (ok Diver Down was a bit sketchy).
Janée Meadows recently sent us the artwork she created for the upcoming Donnas album. As a fan and the fact i think the cover is fantastic i couldn’t resist posting it. The artwork instantly takes me back to the great days of 80′s metal, especially the hair bands which unashamedly rocked my teenage years. Airbrushing [...]
