The Virtual XI cover was done by Melvyn Grant…the same dude who did Fear of the Dark. Does anybody know who did the cover for the Be Quick or Be Dead single?

they are awsome dude i have listened to them for a year and they r WOW words cant explain them at all id love to meet them nicko inspired me to play the drums only 13 years old and i love them especially the trooper also UP THE IRONS.

In answer to the posters question, the 'Virtual XI' album art was done by Melvin Grant, who also done the 'Fear Of The Dark' album cover. Also, 'BBC Archives' was indeed done by Derek Riggs.

In 1998 they reissued all their albums in “Enhanced CD” form, with videoclips and quicktime included. Don't ask me why, really.

The booklet for the BBC Archives disc from Eddie's Archives credits Derek Riggs. Another thing I noticed is that my copy of Best of the B sides has “Maiden Rule” written on Eddie's butt rather than “Up The Irons”.

I've always found the 7″ 12″ and CD single covers of Iron Maiden more intersting than the album one, maybe because you didn't see them everywhere.

I found this excellent feature searching for album art by Mark Wilkinson. If you like his work try to find the cover art he did for a Brit band called Marillion in the 80's. It' my favorite stuff by him. I bought my first Marillion abum just for Mark's artwork. Is anybody else out there old enough to remember buying albums by bands you'd never heard of just because of the album cover art?

Great stuff! That sure is some inconsistent quality-control. I spent a long time in my teens sketching Eddie onto various pencil-cases – if only I'd known their standards had dropped so much I might have donated them!

I remember seeing the Dance of Death album cover in the shops, it's brilliantly crap.
Like a weird metal anime Eyes Wide Shut disco.

You have to hand it to them, the style of illustration these guys use is now like a parody of a parody - but it's interesting how the type treatment stands the test of time.

The best of the zombie-gore drawing style covers in recent years is probably St. Anger, probably the most progressive use of it.

I had no idea either. This is just the tiny tip of the iceberg. Metal was and still is huge. For every 1 pop star that is still around there are 3 metal bands.

Gosh! What a comprehensive summary! I had no idea how IMMENSE these guys are. Huge, yes, but I wouldn't have thought of this scale. I will also say I'm pretty glad I was asked by Drum Media to shoot these guys, even though I was totally buggered from the Big Day Out the day before!
