brilliant essay on an "icon"!
can i just add: the butterfly on the baby's head jumps out as a symbol of somebody who has undergone trauma based mind control (that is a particularly strong meaning in american entertainment circles, and moz lived in LA for ages). A symbol of Project Monarch in which the CIA took children and programmed their minds through trauma. - Many hollywood stars are rumoured to be victims of Project Monarch. Don't know what MOrrissey's allusion is... Could he see himself as having a role in programming us, his fans, by means of his music?

I admit: It was the cover of this record that convinced me to buy it. It is a tough guitar record and I think the softness of the baby is somewhat jarring.

Besides, Morrissey is human too. Maybe he is trying to point out that, beyond his militant/outspoken voice & sexual ambiguity, he still is a man that can cradle a child and change diapers. Kinda hot, Morrissey.
