love the vintage style of the whole package. The inside is much beter than the cover you first see on sight. never judge a book by his cover...

yeah, this is the option that i was resorting to! i've got an old dark side of the moon cover that has a nice level of wearing on it that i'm just going to overlay on the image.

thanks for the reply though!

Hey Nicko,
I hope I don't sound like I'm "crackin' wise" with ya on this, but I've experienced MOST times you're trying to acheive some sort of distressed look, it has benefitted me to take it straight from the source.

What I mean is, scanning sourcing material and textures as close to what you need is probably gonna get you closer to an "authentic" look and feel as opposed to trying to creat it digitally.

Why not buy a record for cheap, lay some oversize paper over it, make a rubbing of sorts (with say chalk or pastel) and scan it in? Take it into Photoshop, grab the texture like line art and fill it with white. Lay it over whatever you want to be "distressed". Try playing with layer blending options, too.

...Or if you're fortunate enough to find a worn vinyl cover where the texture isn't interrupted by type or design (say a predominantly black or dark colored cover where the texture will show up best), then all you need to do is scan the cover in and toy with it in Photoshop.

I hope I didn't insult you by over-explaining, I just don't know how skilled and experienced you are with Photoshop.

Hope this helps,
Enjoy!

Morning Breath has some good stuff, by the way...

Speaking of fake vinyl wear on the cover - i'm trying to get this effect on a cover i'm working on at the moment. does anyone have any tips or tutorials as to how to achieve a REALISTIC version of this??

Thanks for this, I didn't realize there was such intense packaging for this record!

If you're short of inspiration, I suggest you delve into the graphic arts of Storm Thorgerson.
