The White Stripes: Icky Thump
![]()
Here’s another nominee for a Grammy in “Category 89: Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package”. The album was released as limited edition USB
drives, each of the 6,666 produced (3,333 of Meg & 3,333 of Jack) containing the full album in Apple Lossless format. More info here about the bands obsession with the number 3.

With the other nominees in this category being elaborate box sets I hope this one wins purely based on originality.
The album is still available on their store along with a plethora of other branded items. Even kilts for those so inclined.
The Jack & Meg sticks remind me of the Star Wars USB drives from Mimobot. I’d certainly take Darth & Boba Fett over Jack & Meg any day.

You have to hand it to The White Stripes, they have cultivated their “brand” to the point where soon they can stop making music and just sell merchandise.
That’s the cynical part of me speaking. It seems that Jack and Meg are just crazy record collectors too. They seem to rejoice in the fact their fans will have to go to extraordinary lengths to collect their works. Check the Wiki entry on them for the story about the secret album they recorded and then hid in 100 pieces of furniture. None of which have been found to date!

I’m almost tempted to get the limited edition Jack Holga or Meg Diana camera. Those sneaky marketers almost tricked me :) For more info on these camera check here.

While I’m on the topic of limited editions and collectors items. The one thing that’s sure to fetch a good price on eBay is this “Triple Inchphones” (3″ vinyl players) are limited to 400 and only available for sale at live shows. These are by far the “IT” item for collectors.
I saw one recently on eBay for $380 USD! but they have gone for as much as $1,000 Ouch!
We were going to showcase the entire “Icky Thump” artwork but with the 20+ different pieces out there we are still in the process of collating & photographing these. Check the official site which has a very detailed listing of all artwork.
I wonder if this USB drive format will take off?
All photos of the USB sticks taken from 12MC great blog and their Flickr set.
